Abhijit takes lead in Northern India Amateur Golf

CHANDIGARH: Local lad Abhijit Chadha returned the only sub-par card of the day as he took lead after round one of the Northern India Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.

Abhijit shot a one-under 71 while Chikkarangapa from Bangalore followed him with a level par score along with Honey Baisoya of Delhi.

Another Bangalore lad Udayan Mane shot a two-over 74 along with Sidharth Seth of Delhi to be tied third. Varoon Parmar of Chandigarh carded three-over 75 to finish fourth.

The 20-year-old Abhijit overcame an indifferent start to finish the day on a high as he birdied the sixth, 13th, 14th and 17th holes.

"The course was playing very tough today and I think I was not hitting the way I wanted. I am glad that chipping and putting really saved me and I could finish with the best score of the day, Abhijit, the winner of the Faldo series Asia grand final 2011, said.

Rahul Bajaj of Noida, who recently won the silver medal in Asian Games, did not play very well as he returned with the score of five-over 77 while Arshad Ali, the winner of recently held Haryana Open, ended the day with the score of six-over 78.
